Overview

Under the revised NIMC enrollment workflow, applicants need a valid digital reference number from a National Population Commission (NPC)-issued document to enroll for a National Identity Number (NIN).

Legal Framework

Births, Deaths, etc. (Compulsory Registration) Act of 1992 (Act No. 69) established the NPC as the sole legal authority for the registration of births and deaths nationwide. This Act made the registration of vital events compulsory in all cases.

Birth Certificate Number

Certificate obtained through the NPC's electronic civil registration and vital statistics system (e-CRVS).

Certificate Reissuance

Digital Certificate issued if you have an old NPC Birth Certificte.

Document typically issued for children born abroad to Nigerian parents.

17 characters total
2 letters (State/Country) + 15 numbers
