Legal Framework
Births, Deaths, etc. (Compulsory Registration) Act of 1992 (Act No. 69) established the NPC as the sole legal authority for the registration of births and deaths nationwide. This Act made the registration of vital events compulsory in all cases.
Accepted Digital Reference Numbers
Birth Certificate Number
Certificate obtained through the NPC's electronic civil registration and vital statistics system (e-CRVS).
Certificate Reissuance
Digital Certificate issued if you have an old NPC Birth Certificte.
Notification of Birth
Document typically issued for children born abroad to Nigerian parents.

2 letters (State/Country) + 15 numbers
Example: A 17-digit birth certificate number format for Adamawa State would start with the state code followed by numeric characters.
